My Current Reading List

There seems to be a continuous pile of books laying around my desk. Currently these are in a pile – most of them waiting to be read, some are browsers, some I’ve finished (or started). This post has affiliate links to Amazon, which means that if you click through and make an Amazon purchase we make a small percentage of income.

The All New Ball Book of Canning and Preserving-An ongoing read…I can’t tell you how much I love this one. Tons of new recipes, color pictures and food preservation ideas can easily fill time.  Check out the book’s Blueberry Lemon Jam recipe from a previous post.

Without Warning by Lynette Eason- I finished this one this weekend, and it really is a great read. Anna wrote a review of it HERE.

Submerged by Dani Pettrey-I’ve started this one just yesterday. Anna says it’s great. From Amazon: A sabotaged plane. Two dead deep-water divers.Yancey, Alaska was a quiet town…until the truth of what was hidden in the depths off the coast began to appear.Bailey Craig vowed never to set foot in Yancey again. She has a past, and a reputation–and Yancey’s a small town. She’s returned to bury a loved one killed in the plane crash and is determined not to stay even an hour more than necessary. But then dark evidence emerges and Bailey’s own expertise becomes invaluable for the case.

To Capture Her Heart by Rebecca DeMarino-Another Anna pick for me. I haven’t even cracked this one yet, but she says it’s worth the read. From Amazon: It is 1653 and Heather Flower, a princess of the Montauk tribe, is enjoying her wedding feast when her groom is killed and she is kidnapped by a rival tribe and held for ransom. Though her ransom is paid by an Englishman, she is nonetheless left to die in a Connecticut forest–until she finds herself rescued by handsome Dutch Lieutenant Dirk Van Buren. Torn between her affection for Dirk and her long friendship with family friend Benjamin Horton, Heather Flower must make a difficult choice–stay true to her friend or follow her heart.Exploring a unique slice of history, Rebecca DeMarino transports readers to the wild land that would eventually become Long Island, New York. Her attention to detail and her captivating storytelling bring the New World to vivid life.

What Every Pastor’s Wife Should Know by Ruthe White and I’m More Than The Pastor’s Wife by Lorna Dobson-I’m sure Ruthe and Lorna are both lovely people, but both books are at least 20 years old and times they have a changed.

A Mission Mosaic-This is one of four local church/denominational mission books for the year.I keep meaning to take an hour to read it, but I just haven’t.

Rich Christians in An Age of Hunger by Ron Siders– This is constantly on my current reading list. I’ve read it off and on for a few years and continue to read portions of it at a time. From Amazon: Do you want to make a true difference in the world? Dr. Ron Sider does. He has, since before he first published Rich Christians in an Age of Hunger in 1978. Despite a dramatic reduction in world hunger since then, 34,000 children still die daily of starvation and preventable disease, and 1.3 billion people, worldwide, remain in abject poverty. So, the professor of theology went back to re-examine the issues by twenty-first century standards. Finding that Conservatives blame morally reprehensible individual choices, and Liberals blame constrictive social and economic policy, Dr. Sider finds himself agreeing with both sides. In this new look at an age-old problem, he offers not only a detailed explanation of the causes, but also a comprehensive series of practical solutions. in the hopes that Christians like him will choose to make a difference. Read it, guys.

Oregon by Birdie L Etchison- Another “Mom you HAVE to read this book!” pick by Anna. Looks like a cute, fun read, but I haven’t read it yet. From Amazon: FOUR COMPLETE NOVELS: The Heart Has Its Reasons: Emily, the simple Quaker, wants only a simple life. But things get complicated when her dashing friend Kate introduces her to handsome Ben Galloway. Although Ben is not of “The Friendly Persuasion,” Emily finds herself attracted to him in a way that she cannot muster for Parson Luke Morrison. As she sorts through her conflicting emotions, she realizes the heart has its reasons in this season of love. Love Shall Come Again: Young Kate Russell has been a widow for too long. Spirited, lovely, and unconventional, she longs for someone to sweep her off her feet. As if made to order, Jesse Galloway comes into Kate’s life. Tall, handsome, and daring, Jesse seems to fit Kate’s requirements. But Kate’s friends are not so sure, especially Pastor Luke Morrison.

Young Living Guide To Essential Oils-A reference book a friend gave me. It’s like The All New Ball Canning Book–one of those with so much information you pick it up, read it, put it down, pick it up later and read it again. There is so much information packed into this little hand held book.
