Church Gathering at The Parsonage!

We placed an open invitation to our church family and friends to come to our house on Sunday night for Apple Dumplings, a campfire and fellowship.

In May we had a good old fashioned Memorial Day Cookout with burgers and hot dogs, mason jars glasses with soda and lemonade and homemade iced tea.  One month this summer was a corn roast, another was sausages on the grill, another was Football themed with Chili and our collective fave football watching snacks.

This month of October, Fall, Apples, Cinnamon and Quilts can only lend itself to Apple Dumplings. On Saturday I baked 75 of them, warming them on Sunday. On Sunday I baked 12 GF dumplings. A friend brought over another dozen. Some others brought ice cream, while still others brought seasonal goodies, pretzels, chips, sodas, cheese and bologna.

Kaitlyn made homemade hot chocolate and there was plenty of hot apple cider to go around.

At 6 p.m. Sunday evening friends began showing up and at 11:00 p.m. we said goodbye to our last guests, football was turned off, the fire was out, the doors and lights were beginning to close and dim.

There is always food at these gatherings.

Always a campfire.

Always conversation.

I love watching the fellowship that happens when friends chat, new friends are made, stories are told and laughter is loud and plentiful. These events usually last for 5 or 6 hours. Folks come and go as they can.

There is little division between inside and outside, as the doors are generally open from the kids pouring in and out. Everyone brings snacks to share. The kitchen counters and table are loaded with goodies, so much that sometimes it spills over onto the dining room table or the deck. Sometimes, like this week, some gathered around the tv and watched football. Sometimes we play board games, sometimes we just visit.Everyone brings a dish to share, and in turn we all get to participate in the other’s offering.

It is truly a celebration of community.

We are blessed being surrounded by such amazing people.

The weather was perfect for an outdoor gathering!

The sunset was spectacular!
Charlie came along too.
Bob and Kathy brought the cold drinks!
KB’s hot chocolate and warm cider, along with cold drinks.

We all hung out somewhere between the outside, the campfire, the dining room table, the living room, the kitchen, the downstairs…..

The blessing of a full sink!
